The Federal Government N100bn Sukuk

The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched a 7 year NGN100billion ijara (lease) sukuk due 2025 at an annual rental rate of 15.743%. The proceeds of the sukuk will be used for the construction and rehabilitation of key economic roads across the 6 geo-political zones of the country. Rentals will be paid in two equal instalments annually, while purchase price representing principal investment will be paid to investors at the end of the 7 th year of the sukuk.

Lotus Financial Services Limited the pioneer Islamic finance house in Nigeria and FBN Merchant Bank Limited are the arrangers of the NGN100billion sukuk. The Financial Regulatory Advisory Council of Experts (FRACE) of the Central Bank of Nigeria, which is the highest shariah organ in Nigeria for the certification of non-interest financial products, reviewed the structure of the transaction and all transaction documents and certified it compliant for investment by ethically minded investors.
